In 2025, I put much of my efforts into growing the recurring revenue side of my business (namely lawn and garden maintenance).
But in 2026 I want to go back to the roots of the business by focusing my efforts on planting more trees.
When I get calls from people looking into my planting service, the most common thing people ask for is for a cedar hedge. Now of course the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago, so people are always looking for fully grown cedars that will provide them immediate privacy. Unfortunately, trees scale considerably in price for each additional foot. This is because of the increased cost of the tree from the nursery and from the increased dimensions of the tree making it harder to deliver and plant. Most callers will usually settle for something a little smaller than they imagined.
I have had a select few clients (bless their souls) who actually wanted to get young plants for their gardens. Saplings are much easier on my back to plant and I can plant a whole lot of them in a short amount of time making this the best option on a cost per tree basis. The cost per tree can shoot way down too if you’re getting more than a few dozen trees.
Now my absolute favorite clients have been those who understand and share my vision for gardening. That is – Removing the vast monoculture of Kentucky Bluegrass to make way for a colorful assortment of native plants. The reason I love this style of gardening is because it can improve your carbon footprint, provide food for local wildlife, and you can even grow food for yourself and your family.
Do you live near Whitby, Ontario and need help planting trees? If you know what type of trees you want planted, then I can source them and start planting around mid April. If you aren’t sure what you need, we can discuss your vision and I’ll help you pick something out. Either way, give me a call and let’s chat!
